When you meet someone you want to spend your life with, most of the time you get married. You spend life together, putting together a home and gathering stuff you use in your life and home. Two people working on a goal is more enjoyable and takes less time...than working it alone.
Next, you realize, you want something more. Someone else to share your love with, you want to share your home and things with a child. You want to give that child everything you possibly can...you even dream that someday, your children will have children to share life with. Biological children are made from flesh of your flesh......they are a part of you and the one you love....the two of you can create another eternal being made out of both of you. The gift of creation, given by God...to be like him.
This was God's plan first. In Genesis 1:1, God created the heavens and the earth. In Hebrew, the word God here, actually means Elohim, which is the plural form of God. It's where we today derive the word Trinity from. Matthew 23:10 reveals the "Elohim" or God as, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. From this, we see that in the beginning, he was a Father-God. In eternity, before the earth was formed, God had a father nature. We can understand that a father's love and desire would be for children. Our civilization is built around the fact that the home is the basic unit of society. Ephesians 3:14-15 reveals to us that the human father is just a type of the Father-God. God took this longing for children and created a man, made in his own image to be able to walk and talk with him.
Ephesians 1:4-5 explains that before the world was formed, we were created to be holy and blameless in God's presence, we were created and marked for "sonship." Romans 16:25 and 1 Corinthians 2:7 reveal that man was chosen for the place as God's sons/daughters first, before God even created the universe to be his home.
As human beings, we can have dogs, cats, horses and almost any kind of pet you can think of....and we can love them like our family, or make them our family. But, an animal can't relate to the life you live. The ability to make well thought out choices for daily life. Animals are meant to react or go by instinct.....but humans are created with a will and an ability to choose to not react, to change things based on his actions. God, in his desire for fellowship with sons and daughters....had to make us as close in his image as possible, in order for us to relate and enjoy our relationship with Him. Man is in God's image according to Genesis 1:27. We are a spirit, like God, we have a soul (which is your mind, will and emotions) and we possess a body for our spirit to live in. So the spirit part of you is what walks in fellowship with the "Father-God." This can't happen through your body, which is only made to interact with this physical world. The body part of you can only relate to your 5-physical senses, what you can see, hear, feel, taste and touch. But, God is a spirit and those that worship him must do so in spirit and in truth.
We know now that God wanted children-so he started with Adam and Eve. He made them/us in his image, to have fellowship and understanding. He created the universe as a home for his children and he created his children to create other children to share his love with.
What an amazing idea, to know that you were thought of and made to be God's children before the universe was create....and then the universe was created for you to be your home, your supply of food, joy and entertainment.
Next time, we will find out what happened to God's perfect plan for a family....what happened that we have become self-conscious instead of God-conscious. Where we have made the things we see, hear, taste and touch, more important than the things you can't see....like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness and goodness.
